The AACRAO Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Rob Shomaker, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of College and University Professional Association for Human Resources (CUPA-HR) as our first external board member.
Shomaker will begin onboarding with the newly-elected slate of officers in January and will serve for one year beginning at the Annual Meeting in April.
About the role of External Director. Established with a recent change to bylaws, an External Director allows the board to select an individual outside the membership with expertise in a specific area of that is needed to support decision-making or
strategic growth.
About CUPA-HR.
For AACRAO, connecting with CUPA-HR represents an opportunity for strategic engagement with HR Professionals on issues such as developing career paths in our profession, the “professionalization” and credentialing of our roles, and the
forecasted shortage of professionals in our field. Also, AACRAO initiatives developing diversity, equity, and inclusion in the talent pipeline -- such as the LEAD Initiative
-- naturally intersect with CUPA-HR's work.
Meet Rob Shomaker. Shomaker has served as Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of CUPA-HR since 2011. Initially hired as a database manager in 2003, Shomaker has grown along with CUPA-HR, currently overseeing the team driving Membership,
Communications and Marketing, Conferences and Events, Research, IT, and Partner Management for the organization, as well as being regularly engaged in the financial, budgetary and strategic decisions for the association. Shomaker is also involved
with multiple national board committees. Shomaker has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee and an MBA from East Tennessee State University. When he isn’t having fun with his CUPA-HR colleagues, he might be found wrenching
on an old car, working with a local community nonprofit, or playing with his two little girls He's also an Eagle Scout.
