The 2017–18 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) season will begin earlier than previous FAFSA application cycles

Beginning on Oct. 1, 2016, students will be able to fill out the FAFSA for the 2017–18 school year. (In the past, they had to wait until January 1). In addition, applicants will no longer need to estimate income and tax information and will be able to retrieve their data directly from the IRS, right from the first day the FAFSA is available. Students also will have information about their Expected Family Contributions earlier, helping them as they’re going through the college application and selection process.

We Are All Criminals is a catalyst for conversations about crime, privilege, punishment, and second chances.

One in four people in the US has a criminal record; four in four have a criminal history. Through stories, statutes, and statistics, we’ll examine the disparate impact of the criminal and juvenile justice systems on people of color and poor people across the country. The presentation will include first-person narratives and photographs.

Emily Baxter, Executive Director, We Are All Criminals

Emily Baxter is the executive director of We Are All Criminals, a media-based advocacy project and organization. Prior to this, Emily served as the director of advocacy and public policy at the Council on Crime and Justice in Minnesota and as an assistant public defender at the Regional Native Public Defense Corporation representing indigent members of the Leech Lake and White Earth Bands of Ojibwe charged with crimes in Minnesota State court. Emily began developing We Are All Criminals through an Archibald Bush Leadership Fellowship in 2012. She now lives in Durham, North Carolina.

Moderator: Ingrid Nuttall, Manager of Enterprise Systems, University of Minnesota

Ingrid Nuttall is the Manager of Enterprise Systems for the University of Minnesota’s Office of Information Technology which she leads the technical teams that support the University’s ERP infrastructure. Ingrid has nearly 20 years experience in higher education, having worked previously for the Office of the Registrar at the U of MN for over a decade. She is a frequent presenter at AACRAO annual meetings and is also the board chair for We Are All Criminals, an arts non-profit dedicated to igniting social change through personal stories, disrupting and dismantling the barriers that separate us.
