The 2017–18 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) season will begin earlier than previous FAFSA application cycles

Beginning on Oct. 1, 2016, students will be able to fill out the FAFSA for the 2017–18 school year. (In the past, they had to wait until January 1). In addition, applicants will no longer need to estimate income and tax information and will be able to retrieve their data directly from the IRS, right from the first day the FAFSA is available. Students also will have information about their Expected Family Contributions earlier, helping them as they’re going through the college application and selection process.

Best Practices for Recording Gender Identity/Expression, Designated Pronouns, & Preferred Names in Enrollment Services

An understanding of common practices for maintaining gender identity, designated pronouns, and preferred names in enrollment services, independent of ERP solutions. The discussion will focus on examples within Higher Education and the overall policies that govern these processes. In addition an emphasis will be placed on the larger context of effective academic records management in creating an overall culture of inclusion.

Mike Burke, Registrar of the Faculty of Arts & Sciences, Harvard University

Mike Burke is the Registrar of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Harvard where he oversees course enrollment, student records, alumni credentials, classroom scheduling, the course catalogue, student billing, and other areas. As co-chair of the SIS Executive Committee, Mike leads the implementation of Harvard's first University-wide student information system and also serves as chair to advisory groups on data governance and faculty engagement with the SIS project. In addition to my role as registrar, Mike is the Co-Director of the Harvard College Local Emergency Management Team. Mike earned a master’s degree in higher education administration from Harvard and a BA in political science from Syracuse University. Before coming to Harvard, he served as a Peace Corps volunteer at Nkayi, Zimbabwe.

Jack Miner, University Registrar & Executive Director of Enrollment Services, The Ohio State University

Jack Miner was recently named University Registrar of The Ohio State University. Jack is also the Vice-President of Finance for the AACRAO Board of Directors. In addition to serving on the board, Jack has also served as Vice Chair of the AACRAO nominations and elections committee, chair of the Program Committee for the 2015 Conference in Phoenix and served as President and Treasurer for Ohio AACRAO. Jack served for 15 years as President of Ohio State’s Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Alumni Society. In 2013, Ohio State announced the launch of the Jack Miner Scholarship for Transgender Students in his honor. 

Joseph J. Salomone, PhD, University Registrar & Executive Director, Enrollment Management & Student Succes, Drexel University

Joseph Salomone is currently the Chair of AACRAO’s LGBTQA caucus. He has been with Drexel University since 1990. He manages the current Registrar offices for all three campuses (University City, Center City, and Queen Lane). He is fluent in the academic enterprise from Enrollment Management and Academic Affairs to Alumni Relations. Joseph has presented nationally at the SCT Ellucian Summit, MSACRAO and AACRAO conferences related to LGBTQA issues, the Office of the University Registrar, Drexel University and other technical nuances related to the Banner Student System.

Brenda Selman, University Registrar, University of Missouri

Brenda Selman has served as the University Registrar at the University of Missouri (Columbia) since 2000. She is also the Student Information Systems Representative for the University of Missouri System. She is the past chair of AACRAO’s Federal Compliance Committee.
