Challenges and Solutions for Data Integration: A Report from and Discussion with the Comprehensive Learner Records Project Data Integration Work Group

As part of the AACRAO-NASPA Comprehensive Learner Records (CLR) project supported by Lumina Foundation, a work group of AACRAO records professionals addressed the challenges of data integration across multiple institutional data platforms. After meeting, the work group then convened a larger group of potential solution providers to consider how those challenges may be met. The result is a draft white paper.

Presenter: Tom Green, AACRAO Associate Executive Director, Consulting and SEM

tom-green-1-w400Dr. Tom Green is AACRAO’s Associate Executive Director, Consulting and SEM. During his 29-year career in higher education, he led enrollment management efforts for six universities and collaborated with both public and private institutions to reach their goals. Green brings proven best-practice expertise in developing effective recruitment and retention strategies, enhancing and streamlining financial aid processes, maximizing institutional aid, identifying customer service/CRM strategies, and implementing and evaluating comprehensive service systems for colleges and universities.


Presenter: Mark McConahay, Associate Vice Provost and Registrar, Indiana University Bloomington

Mark McConahayMark McConahay attended Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, received a B.A. in Mathematics (1979) and Master of Science of Environmental Science (1984) and never left. He joined the Office of the Registrar in 1982 as an Analyst/Programmer, was the Associate Registrar of Systems from 1990–2011, and is now the Associate Vice Provost and Registrar. In addition to his work in the Office of the Registrar, Mark has presented at several conferences, received two EDUCAUSE Best practice Awards (then CAUSE), two CUMREC Best Paper Awards, contributed to books and articles, was a member of the 2002 EDUCAUSE program committee, and a member of the CUMREC Board of Directors. 


Presenter: V. Shelby Stanfield, Director, Service Innovation Networks, National Student Clearinghouse

 

Shelby StanfieldFor 30 years, Shelby served his alma mater, University of Texas at Austin, Austin, Texas, in varying roles of increased responsibility and in 2018 retired as Vice Provost and University Registrar.  Today, he continues serving higher education as director, service innovation networks with the National Student Clearinghouse.  With a background in software development and design, Shelby has had a wide professional portfolio that includes experience working with the offices of the bursar, admissions, student financial services, information systems and technology and registrar


Presenter: Tom Black, Assistant Vice Provost & University Registrar,
The Johns Hopkins University

tom-black-site-285x300Tom Black is the Assistant Vice Provost & University Registrar at The Johns Hopkins University. He has worked in higher education for over 30 years in various administrative positions including the registrar offices of Stanford University, the University of Chicago, Duke University, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Most recently, he has worked to perfect the electronic transcript and a safe means of delivery via the Internet. He's interested in increasing the exchange of student data using national standards while ensuring only authorized access to that information. 


Presenter: Matt Gee, CEO, BrightHive

Matt GeeMatt Gee is Co-founder and CEO at BrightHive, a social enterprise building open source infrastructure for data collaboratives that power smarter government and more effective social service delivery. He is also a Senior Research Scientist at the University of Chicago’s Center for Data Science and Public Policy and a Research Fellow at the Urban Center for Computation and Data. He is the co-founder of the Eric and Wendy Schmidt Data Science for Social Good fellowship, which over the last five years has paired 220 data science fellows with over 75 national, state, and local government organizations and NGOs to build data-driven solutions to social problems.
