Karen Chico Hurst is the Director of Risk Management and Compliance at SUNY System Administration, a role she began in February 2025. Prior to this, she served as University Registrar at the University at Albany for almost 15 years. Throughout her career, she has held leadership roles at public, private, and community colleges, including Associate Director for Administration for the University in the High School Program, Associate Registrar, Assistant Registrar, and Assistant to the President for Institutional Research.

A graduate of SUNY Plattsburgh (BS) and Russell Sage College (MBA), Karen is known for her willingness to collaborate locally and nationally, as well as her commitment to improving policy, process, and service delivery. She is a recipient of the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Professional Service along with numerous other honors celebrating her leadership and commitment to higher education. Karen currently co-chairs the Donate Life New York State Advisory Committee, a vital body dedicated to advancing organ, eye, and tissue donation across the state. Her leadership supports the Committee’s mission to increase donor enrollment, enhance education efforts, and ultimately save and improve more lives through expanded donation opportunities.
