Join AACRAO in the national #DoublePell campaign to raise the maximum Pell Grant to $13,000 and bring affordable, high-quality college education within reach of all students.

AACRAO recently helped launch the national #DoublePell campaign to double the maximum Pell Grant by the 50th anniversary of the creation of the program in June 2022.

The Pell Grant is a proven program that has been the foundation of federal student aid for decades, opening the doors of college and opportunity to low- and moderate-income students. Doubling the maximum annual Pell Grant award to $13,000 will help more students earn a degree.

The campaign, developed by a coalition of higher education organizations and advocacy groups, aims to encourage students, families, institutions, and others to speak out and communicate to Congress the urgency of doubling Pell.

How can you help to promote the #DoublePell campaign?

The campaign features a new website, doublepell.org, with resources and tools to contact members of Congress and ask them to act now to #DoublePell. The Take Action page also includes a space for students to share their personal stories, as well as shareable graphics to amplify the campaign on social media.

Make your students’ voices heard.

Encourage your students and alumni who are Pell Grant recipients to share their stories about how the program benefited them and why it is important to double the maximum grant in order to continue helping students achieve their academic goals and succeed beyond college.

Take action to contact Congress.

Invite your students, alumni, and campus colleagues to visit the campaign’s Take Action page, which includes a customizable letter that individuals can send to their Senators and House Representatives in support of doubling the maximum Pell Grant award to $13,000.

Engage on social media to amplify your students’ voices and promote the campaign. Urge your campus community to share their stories and speak out on social media using shareable graphics and #DoublePell.

Spread the word.

Help increase awareness of the Pell Grant program, its impact on students, and the need to double the maximum reward. Share the #DoublePell advocacy handout and other resources.

For millions of students, Pell Grants make the difference between being able to attend college or not. Pell Grants are well-targeted to students with clear financial need. Nearly 90 percent of all Pell dollars go to students with a family income below $50,000, and are especially critical for students of color. The program helps nearly 7 million low- and moderate-income students attend and complete college annually.

Join AACRAO in the national #DoublePell campaign to raise the maximum Pell Grant to $13,000 and bring affordable, high-quality college education within reach of all students.
