Plenary Panel Presentation: "Looking Ahead: How Can Community Colleges Navigate their Enrollment Futures?"
Panelists: Dr. Monica Parrish Trent, Vice President of Network Engagement at Achieving the Dream; Dr. Dhanfu Elston, Chief of Staff & Senior Vice President for Strategy, Complete College America; Dr. Kevin Pollock, President of Central Carolina Technical College; Laura J. Clark, Executive Director, Virginia’s Community Colleges Student Success Center Virginia’s Community Colleges - System Office; Facilitated by Tom Green, AACRAO Associate Executive Director.
8:45 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.
After nearly 10 years of slow, steady declines across the sector, community colleges experienced the worst enrollment impacts during the pandemic. As they look ahead and work to serve a growing population
of adults, and a shrinking high school graduate pool nationally, key questions emerge. What are some of the factors that contributed to these sharp declines? What do two-year institutions need to do to serve their learners of all ages
and from all socioeconomic groups? How can two-year institutions leverage enrollments from all their programs, including technical/workforce programs, to help employers meet increasing demands for a skilled workforce? What do four-year
institutions need to know to both help their two-year partners and increase their enrollment of transfer students? These will be some of the discussion topics with the panel in this plenary session. Come to learn and come with your questions
for our experts and leaders.
