GDPR and SEVIS Compliance

January 21, 2026

January 21, 2026 | 2:00-3:00 pm ET

As global engagement grows, U.S. institutions face expanding compliance risks under the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS). This session clarifies how GDPR applies to colleges that recruit, enroll, or employ individuals in the EU—often beyond FERPA’s scope—and outlines its stricter privacy and consent standards. We’ll also address recent tightening of annual SEVIS verification requirements, proposed SEVIS changes to duration of status, ICE compliance messaging, and policy updates and digital modernization. Participants will gain practical guidance for identifying institutional exposure, coordinating cross-departmental compliance, and building stronger data governance practices across campus operations.
