The "Extending the Transcript" Track at the AACRAO Technology/Transfer Conference in Austin!

June 12, 2015 - June 12, 2015

Wow – What an Opportunity!

Call it serendipity or just call it luck, but whatever you call it, it is a truly unique set of circumstances for the membership of AACRAO and anyone working in the higher education space.  For a variety of reasons, we are living in a period in which the foundation of our academic record is under scrutiny, the metrics used to communicate the academic experiences and expertise of our students is being questioned and the credit hour has been the subject of study as an obstacle of change rather than a foundational  block of  the record.  The Higher Education industry has not stood still in the face of these issues; some institutions have implemented programs based upon new pedagogical principles (e.g., CBE) and new documents (co-curricular transcripts) asserting not only traditional academic attributes, but other aspects of the academic experience that can be asserted by the institution on behalf of the student.   Per AACRAO, the question is “What are we recording and why?”

AACRAO has begun to frame the overall record discussion, identify the issues and attempt to develop the guidelines and principles to guide us through the next iteration of the academic record.  They have already gathered those in the industry who have adopted different approaches, assembled record professionals to identify the issues, will be assembling other stakeholders and consumers of our records to identify required elements and last, but certainly not least, will engage the AACRAO membership directly in the consideration and creation of the overall framework.  The AACRAO Technology and Transfer Conference offers a unique opportunity to review the work that has been done to date, see examples of alternative records and directly contribute to the vision and direction the “Extension of the Transcript”! In addition to the content and engagement described below, perhaps nowhere else (other than Tech/Transfer) will the content providers, thought leaders and colleagues who can so directly affect change and the future of our profession than at this conference.  It is truly a unique opportunity and should not be missed.

I truly hope to see you in Austin for the AACRAO Technology and Transfer Conference!
