71 schools have applied to the Ministry of Education to try out the new teaching method, with another 11 still in negotiations. They will test all the new features introduced, which the ministry wants to bring to every classroom in the Czech Republic.
So that children understand the material discussed much better and are able to use it practically. With this goal in mind, the Ministry of Education intends to reform teaching in all Czech schools . The ministry published its idea at the beginning of the year, and if you are interested in specific points, you can read them in this text .
The reform will be tested for a year before the changes come into effect for all schools (at least in grades 1 and 6) in September 2027. Schools could apply for the pilot testing of the so-called model school educational programs until the end of April, and the Ministry of Education already knows where the new teaching will be tested.
The plan was to involve 100 schools. In the end, 82 interested parties filled out the questionnaire and application form in the National Pedagogical Institute system.
"71 schools sent the completed questionnaire to the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports via data box according to the instructions. We will contact the remaining 11 schools again to see if there were any omissions on their part, and if necessary, we will include them in the verification," said Veronika Lucká Loosová, spokesperson for the Ministry of Education, for Seznam Zprávy.
According to the Ministry of Education, the reform of teaching should ensure that studies are more oriented towards connections with real life. Overall, the number of outcomes that students should master has decreased, and they are also formulated in a more general way. However, this does not apply to all subjects. For example, mathematics has now been included in the secondary school curriculum, and English will also be more difficult, and students will have it right from the first year.
However, the changes are not only welcomed positively. As Seznam Zprávy has already reported , chemists, for example, fear that teaching their subject will begin to be perceived as a second civics education. At the end of April, there were protests against the transformation of music and art education.
The reformed instructions from the Ministry of Education give schools quite a lot of freedom. And the ministry promises that it will manage to figure everything out during the pilot testing. At least 71 schools will try out the new teaching.
"This number is sufficient to meet the objectives of the pilot verification. It also means that all registered schools that have met the conditions of the call will be included in the pilot verification. Schools should receive information about their inclusion around the middle of next week," adds a spokesperson for the Ministry of Education.
One of them will be the Central Bohemian Hostivice Elementary School.
"We will still have to adjust the school curriculum, so we want to try it out for a year. But it won't be such a big change for us, because we already do a lot of things besides integrating subjects," explains school principal Michaela Rosenkranzová, explaining why they signed up for the testing.
The pilot verification will run from June 1, 2025 to October 31, 2026. The new teaching method will be tested in participating schools during the next school year. Feedback will then be processed and individual model school educational programs will be adjusted so that an updated second version can be released, which all schools can then work with.
