The American Institute for Economic Research has ranked the top cities for college students based on the best off-campus experiences, reports USA Today. Researchers analyzed data on 360 metropolitan areas and came up with the top 75 destinations. Researchers considered criteria, based on publicly available federal data, such as: the academic environment, including the number of college students per 1,000 residents; quality of life, including the cost of living and number of cultural and entertainment venues per 100,000 residents; and professional opportunities, income per capital, unemployment rate and yearly increase in college-educated people moving in or out of the city, reported USA Today. The cities are ranked in four categories: major metro (2.5 million+), mid-size metro (1 million-2.5 million), small metro (250,000-1 million), and college town (under 250,000). The top ranked destinations for each of categories were New York, San Jose, Boulder, and Ithaca.
