This summer, the California Community College System launched CCCTran, an electronic transcript service. The service enables all community colleges to transfer student transcripts within the state’s 109 colleges and among the University of California and California State University systems as well as other in-state and out-of-state higher education institutions. CCCTran has the ability to request transcripts, fulfill transcript requests automatically, extract student data from a transcripting college’s student information system, and deliver that data into the requesting college’s system, without human interaction. The transactions are encrypted and secure. The CCCTran service provides transcript status e-mails to the students throughout the process. CCCTran has lowered the cost to send transcripts from an average of $7 dollars per transcript to less than fifty cents per transcript. www.cccco.edu/news/press/press_2007/press_august/press_082307.htm
