The National Association of College Admissions Counseling has released it's annual report, “State of College Admissions 2006.” Among the key findings: - On average, the ratio of applicants to admissions officers is 395:1 (683:1 at public institutions and 279:1 at privates).
- Colleges spend $442 to recruit each applicant.
- 60% of the nation's 3 million High School graduates enrolled in post-secondary education.
- Black and Hispanic students comprise only 18% of undergraduate admissions despite constituting 32% of the nation's college-age population.
- 73% of colleges saw an increase in applications.
- 70% of all applications were accepted.
- 55% of applications were submitted by women.
- Of colleges offering early decision / early action, 54% saw an increase in applications.
- 21% of wait-listed students were eventually admitted.
- Top factors for admissions continue to be: grades in college preparatory courses, standardized admission tests, and overall high school GPA.
- A majority of colleges recalculate GPA to standardize admissions.
