The three Raffles schools in Singapore—Raffles Institution (RI), Raffles Girls’ Secondary (RGS) and Raffles Junior College (RJC)—are working to develop partnerships with universities in the United States to help send more students to college abroad, reports the Straits Times.
The names of the U.S. institutions have not yet been released, but the Raffles schools are expected to announce more details regarding the program by the end of this year. Meanwhile, Raffles students will be encouraged to take Advanced Placement exams to give them an edge in U.S. admissions. “The best U.S. colleges look very favorably on these tests, which are the equivalent of some first-year university courses,” said Raffles Institution Headmaster Wong Siew Hoong. “Our students stand a better chance of getting a place in top universities and will also get credit on their first year undergraduate courses.”
RI and RGS held open houses last week to introduce the program to parents. Parents said they were impressed.
