Trump Extends Federal Education Advisory Commissions

President Trump on Friday signed an executive order on the continuance of certain federal advisory committees. The order includes a two-year extension for three commissions focus on education: the President's Advisory Commission on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, the President's Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for Hispanics, and the President's Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for African Americans.

The committees were set to expire on September 30 without action from the White House.

Members of the panel focused on education for Hispanics said last month that the Trump administration has had little to no contact with them all year, Politico Morning Education reported. Meanwhile, two-thirds of the Obama-appointed members of the commission focused on education for Asian-Americans and Pacific Islanders stepped down earlier this year, citing Trump's "portrayal of immigrants, refugees, people of color and people of various faiths as untrustworthy, threatening and a drain on our nation."
