Study Abroad Officials Monitor Situation in Turkey

June 03, 2013

U.S. universities are monitoring a potentially dangerous situation in Turkey, where protests in Istanbul and elsewhere have led to conflicts with police. Syracuse University has 20 students in Istanbul who are scheduled to leave on June 9. The school says they are talking with students about precautions they should be taking. Various other institutions have summer programs about to begin in Turkey. While schools such as Western Michigan and Northwestern Universities are not planning to suspend their summer study abroad programs there, they will continue to monitor the situation.
