Executive Director Update - June 22, 2017

Last week, AACRAO hosted one of our most well attended webinars with nearly 560 participants joining a discussion with the U.S Department of Education on compliance issues related to National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) enrollment reporting.

The webinar presenters included Jeff Baker, Director of Policy Liaison and Implementation Staff at U.S. Department of Education; Randy Bowman, Information Technology Specialist, Business Operations at U.S. Department of Education; George Levathes, Vice President, Compliance and Education Finance Industry Relations at the National Student Clearinghouse; and moderator William Gil, Director of Government Relations at AACRAO.

As a membership organization, one of our roles is to facilitate discussions between Federal Government agencies and your institutions. This was an especially important topic as over 1,000 institutions are currently out of compliance with mandatory federal reporting requirements and have received a letter from the Education Department indicating the need to address the issue. In discussions with our members, it became clear that institutions are committed to complying with the NSLDS reporting requirements, but that there was confusion and questions about who needed to be reported and how to remedy the errors that were resulting from their data submissions. The goal of the webinar was to provide some clarity about what institutions needed to report and provide useful information and resources to institutions, with the goal of reducing the number of institutions that find themselves in this situation.

The presenters tackled issues related to the NSLDS guidelines associated with enrollment reporting requirements and answered a wide range of compliance questions.
