Education Dept. Extends Deadline on NSLDS Reporting

This week, the U.S. Department of Education published a Dear Colleague Letter providing some additional information and guidance on upcoming changes to the National Student Loan State System (NSLDS) enrollment reporting.

The letter outlines a three-month extension on the deadline for institutions to implement the necessary changes, from July 1 to October 1. The agency is still encouraging schools to aim for the earlier date, noting that those institutions choosing to delay their use of the new file layouts must retroactively report program-level enrollment information from July 1, 2014.

The agency warns that failure to begin reporting under the new layouts by October 1 could result in institutions' enrollment records being rejected and institutions being out of compliance with the regulatory requirements.
