China's CDC Reports 20 Percent of Country's College Students Suffer from Mental Disorders

June 02, 2013

About 20 percent of college students in China suffer from mental disorders, according to a recent survey conducted by the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Some of the students' major stressors include employment, pursuit of graduate education, and interpersonal relationships. As the number of college graduates increases, many are having trouble finding jobs. Some opt to attend graduate school instead. Interpersonal relationships are also a major source of stress for students; one-third of students at Shanghai Normal University have sought help from the counseling center for problems with their roommates or classmates.
