Read about what’s changed since then and what hasn’t in The Work of the Registrar: A Summary of Principles and Practices in American Universities and Colleges. Written by Alma H. Preinkert, registrar at the University of Maryland from 1935 to 1954, it became an invaluable reference guide for all registrars during the 1940’s. Current members of the profession should find this to be an interesting historical read. While the methods used to admit, register and maintain records have changed dramatically with computers and web based systems, the basic mission of the registrar’s office has not.
