Admissions Manager 101

When? Monday, June 2 - Friday, June 27, 2008

What? An interactive, online course for people who are either currently in admissions management or who have been in the profession for at least two years and want to move into management. From the convenience of your home via Internet at any hour, you will be able to connect with AACRAO faculty and with your colleagues on the following issues:

  • Q&A Open Forum to address specific concerns of participants

Experienced AACRAO practitioners serve as facilitators of the various modules.

Method of delivery:

The course is conducted entirely online over the Internet using a standard browser. No specialized hardware of software is required to participate, and all learning materials are furnished online. The moderator provides a short initial tutorial on how to operate in the online classroom.

Time commitment:

To benefit as intended from the course, participants are asked to set aside approximately 8-10 hours per week for reading, reflecting and interacting during each of the four weeks the course is in session. Class members can log on and participate whenever and from wherever it is convenient for them to do so.

Faculty:

Doug Hartnagel has 34 years of extensive experience in enrollment management, including experience in such areas as admissions, registrar, financial aid, career services and academic advising. He has worked in higher education at Florida International University, the University of Massachusetts at Boston, Cleveland State University and most recently at the University of South Florida. His work at these institutions has been in the capacity of Director of School and College Relations, Dean of Admissions, Dean of Enrollment Services and Associate Vice President for Enrollment Planning & Management.

Dr. Dean R. Kahler is currently the Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management at Western Kentucky University. In his current role, he leads a team of directors from the offices of Admissions, Registrar, Financial Aid, Academic Advising and Retention, First Year Programs, Student Disability Support Services and the TRIO Programs.

Dr. Brent A. Gage currently serves Northern Illinois University as the Assistant Vice Provost for Enrollment Services. In this role he oversees the Offices of Admissions, Registration and Records, Financial Aid, and Scholarships. Previously, Dr. Gage has worked in Admissions, Orientation, Financial Aid, Student Involvement and Registration.
