On Thursday, November 12th and the morning of Friday, November 13th, AACRAO will host a joint Registrar 101 and FERPA workshop immediately following AACRAO 's SEM Conference in Dallas.

The Registrar 101 and FERPA Workshop includes sessions on the Role of the Registrar, Advice to New Registrars/Resources for Registrars, A Semester in the Life: Nuts and Bolts, and other essential building blocks for new registrars. It will provide an overview of the profession and its daily responsibilities, a network of valuable contacts, and sources of information for future guidance. The Registrar 101 workshop gives registrars and registrar staff personnel the tools necessary for professional success.

Glenn Munson, Registrar at Rhodes College and AACRAO Vice President for Records and Academic Services will be directing the Registrar portion of the program. LeRoy Rooker, leading expert on FERPA, former director of the U.S. Department of Education's Family Policy Compliance Office and AACRAO Senior Fellow, will conduct the FERPA portion of this workshop.

Registrars who are new to the profession (within 3 years) or interested in a refresher course

Discuss professional and institutional issues driving the profession.

Advice to New Registrars/Resources for Registrars
This session will provide advice on issues ranging from customer service to handling staff to tips on personal and professional development as well as where to find help when you need it.

A Semester in the Life of a Registrar: Nuts and Bolts 
What happens when? And how does it happen correctly and on time during a semester? This interactive session covers the major tasks facing the registrar's office.

FERPA
These sessions provide an overview of the FERPA statute and regulations and ongoing policy interpretations by the U.S. Department of Education. The sessions will also discuss common scenarios under FERPA.
