(notification)
The
most common means of notifying students of their rights under FERPA
are in student handbooks, newspapers and catalogs.
The
simplest way for an agency or institution to author a FERPA compliant
annual notification is to download the model
document from the U.S. Department of Education Family Policy Compliance
Office websiteand simply add in your institutions name.
E-mail
may be used as the means of annual notification if all students at
the institution have e-mail addresses.
Those
with access to student records via institutional databases (e.g.,
student workers) must be designated as a school official
in the schools annual notification.
