Amendment Procedures

The general procedures for amending education records are as follows:

1. Once a student identifies a record he or she believes to be inaccurate or misleading, the institution must decide within reasonable period of time whether to amend as the student has requested.

2. If the institution decides against the amendment of a student’s record, they must:

  • inform the student of his or her right to a hearing.
  • allow the student to insert a statement in his or her record if, after a hearing, the institution maintains its position against the requested amendment.
