Transfer Credit Mandate not Included in HR 2863

Issue could Resurface in Reauthorization

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Contrary to earlier indications, AACRAO has just confirmed that the proposed transfer credit mandate, originally included in the Higher Education Hurricane Relief bill, was NOT included in HR 2863, the "Department of Defense, Emergency Supplemental Appropriations to Address Hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico, and Pandemic Influenza Act" of 2006.

The transfer credit rider could resurface in reauthorization; therefore it is crucial members of the higher education community consider the effects these rulings would have on their institutions and contact their congressional representatives. The provision dictates colleges and universities may not base their transfer credit decisions on the accreditation of the provider of credits if the accrediting body is recognized by the Secretary of Education."
