Letter to Senate Appropriations Committee in Support of Adequate Funding for NSF

May 16, 2001

RE: Adequate Funding in 302(b) for the National Science Foundation (NSF)

Dear Senator:

On behalf of the American Council on Education and the higher education associations listed below, I write to strongly encourage the Appropriations Committee to provide an allocation to the VA-HUD, and Independent Agencies Subcommittee that will enable important objectives for scientific research and education to be accomplished at the National Science Foundation (NSF).

Many members of Congress are on the record for supporting the bipartisan goal of doubling the National Science Foundation (NSF) budget by FY 2005. The higher education community agrees that this is one of the best strategies our nation can adopt to ensure continued economic prosperity, a technologically-proficient workforce, improved public health and strengthened national security.

Thank you for your leadership and support. We look forward to working with you.

Sincerely,
Stanley O. Ikenberry
President
